A group of local history enthusiasts with an interest in and a wish to celebrate the town’s rich heritage then began meeting in the original museum in Station Road. Now the Group normally meets in the Sheringham Museum.
The Group meets under the Chairmanship of Phil Hawes, with Nick Wallace as Secretary and your initial point of contact. Please note we are unable to help you with queries on Sheringham related genealogy topics.
At the 2023 AGM the members unanimously approved of the appointment of eminent local historian Neil Storey to the position of Honorary President.
Our Meetings and Visits
The Group meets on the first Wednesday of most months, normally in the Upper Gallery at the Sheringham Museum at the Mo, on the seafront, gathering at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start. But please note that November 2026, February 2027 and March 2027 talks will place in the Quaker Meeting House, 14 Cremer Street

Most of the meetings take the form of an illustrated talk given by a local expert, normally on a topic relating to Sheringham, North Norfolk or the county of Norfolk as a whole.

The Group undertakes a visit each July to a point of local historical interest. Recent outings have included archaeological, ecclesiastical and industrial sites.

In December we hold a social event at a local venue for members to get together.
Taking the form of an afternoon tea party, these have been held in a different place of interest around the town each year, including the NNR Victorian era buffet, and the new St Peter’s church hall.

Joining us
The annual membership fee of £8 covers all meetings at the Museum during the year from September to the following August. We ask guests and visitors to contribute £5 for each meeting they come to at the Museum. Meetings at other venues may be subject to their own charges.
