What is an Anchoress/Anchorite and how did they live?-Joy Taylor

5 March 2025 :7:30 PM - 9:15 PM

Many people have heard of arguably the most famous Anchoress in England, Julian of Norwich, but even if they know she was an Anchoress, they may not know what choosing to live a separate, solitary, contemplative life really meant in practical terms.

This talk explores the way women and men started to choose such a way of life, particularly during the medieval period, and how the way of life developed differently in different places and over time.

Meet at the Sheringham Museum at the Mo.
7.00 for a 7.30 start.
The museum is on Lifeboat Plain. Please use the School Entrance towards the rear of the building.
