Norwich Textiles, a Global Story 1750-1840-Dr Michael Nix
2 October 2024 :7:30 PM - 9:15 PM

In the eighteenth century Norwich was a major manufacturing centre of worsted and half-silk fabrics. Michael’s talk will focus on the role of woolcombers, spinners, weavers, dyers, hot-pressers and others in the making of Norwich textiles, and the role of London and Great Yarmouth in the distribution of these highly desirable goods to consumers in Europe, the Americas, China and the British colonies. Even today, Norwich textiles can be found in collections in England, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, France, Norway, Sweden and in other countries.
