SUMMARY:When Heroes Die-Sue Smart
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful and moving Remembrance Day talk with author Sue Smart as she shares the story of a single\, fateful generation from Gresham’s School who answered the call to arms in the First World War and never returned.Sue\, a former Deputy Head and history teacher at Gresham’s\, brings to life the stories of over 110 former pupils and staff—a devastating loss for one small school.Using a forgotten archive of letters and original documents written by the young men themselves\, Sue paints poignant and moving portraits of their lives\, dreams and ultimate sacrifice. This isn’t just local history; it’s a reflection on the universal and timeless loss and waste of war—the irreplaceable youth\, potential\, and human spirit mowed down on the battlefields. Hear their voices\, remember their names\, and reflect on the personal cost of the Great War.
