DESCRIPTION:Event preceded by virtual AGM \n\n\n\n\n\nSmugglers of the 18th and 19th centuries are often depicted as heroic figures defying high taxes and an oppressive government\, all set against a backdrop of moonlight\, secret tunnels and rugged coastline. Welcome to Wells-next-the-Sea.  \n\n\n\nSteve Adcock is a member of the Wells Local History Group\, having spent a career in law enforcement\, and with the aid of local historical records and photographs\, takes one beyond the stereotypical romantic portrayal of these rebellious heroes to shine a light on the reality of smuggling at the time\, often by dangerous and violent criminals. \n\n\n\nAGM papers will be distributed ahead of the meeting. After the talk there will be the opportunity to discuss any matters arising and to address any question that members may have. \n\n\n\nMeet at the Sheringham Museum at the Mo. 7.00 for a 7.30 start. \n\n\n\nThe museum is on Lifeboat Plain.
