If you have an interest in local history why not join us at our regular monthly meetings? We have a range of speakers on topics that generally have a bias towards Sheringham, North Norfolk or Norfolk county. Our recent talks include “Sheringham Park: 200 years as a working estate“, “Notorious Norfolk Murders“, “History of the Sheringham Fire and Rescue Service” and “North Norfolk at War 1939”

We meet on the first Wednesday of most months at 7.00 for 7.30. Normally meeting are at the Sheringham Museum at the Mo, on the seafront.

At each meeting an expert gives an illustrated talk on a topic that is relevant to Norfolk, usually to North Norfolk.

We also arrange at least one visit each year to a local site of historic interest. For example, last year we visited the excavations of a Roman site just outside Aylsham next to Woodgate Nursery and the water powered sawmill at In December we have a social event at a local venue.

The Group started as part of the Preservation Society, chaired by Mike Felmingham, which was responsible for the ‘Heritage Walk’ and Blue Plaques around the town. For the past few years the Group has been under guidance of Hugh Bradbury.

Following the release of most of the Covid-19 restrictions in July 2021, face to face meetings resumed. An outline programme for the remainder of the 2022 season can be found on the Events page and the Events tab.

Normally everyone is welcome at meeting local residents and visitors to Sheringham alike. But at the time of writing we have decided to limit attendance to members until we are certain that meetings with a larger audience will be safe.

To give a flavour of our meetings, topics covered at our most recent meetings are outlined on the archive page.
